1.
Removal of tire flat spots prior to balancing
Flat spots on the tire will develop when the vehicle has been stationary for as little as 5 minutes. It is essential that any flat spots are eliminated
before the wheel/tire assembly is balanced. This should be done by driving the vehicle for a minimum of 10 minutes and raising the vehicle off the
tires immediately upon return to the workshop.
2.
Wheel mounting on the balancer
Due to the weight and size of the assembly, use of a regular cone mount is insufficient to ensure accurate location of the wheel on the balancer. In
order to guarantee correct mounting, it is necessary to center the wheel (using a centering sleeve) on the pilot diameter on the rearward face of the
wheel. To ensure that the wheel is correctly positioned against the balancer flange, use a five stud flange adapter plate and position it into the
wheel nut holes on the front face of the wheel (figure 1).
It is important to validate that the correct balance has been achieved by repositioning the wheel on the balancer and spinning. The wheel will be correctly
balanced if the results are repeatable in any position.
A flange plate adapter has been developed which is suitable for use on the Range Rover (with 5 studs on a 120 mm Pitch Circle Diameter (PCD). This is
available as part of a kit containing:
