PROCEDURE

Perform the diagnostic procedures and repairs outlined for both front and rear differential pinion oil seals.

NOTE:  Use only tool LRT-51-009 for the installation of pinion seals. Use of any other tool may result in damage to the seal.

Removal

1.

Remove four nuts and bolts securing driveshaft to differential.

2.

Release shaft and tie aside (figure 1).

3.

Hold differential flange with tool # LRT-51-003 (figure 2).

4.

Remove flange nut

5.

Remove flange.

6.

Remove oil seal with a suitable tool.

Inspection

1.Inspect seal locating bore and remove any sharp edges that may damage new oil seal.

2.

Inspect front and rear transfer box output seals for leakage. Replace transfer box seals if leakage is present

3.

Check breather for proper operation.

Installation

1.

Ensure that all mating surfaces are clean.

2.

Lubricate oil seal with axle oil.
