Release four bolts securing hub to carrier and discard bolts (Figure 4).

14.

Release hub from carrier. Remove hub and drive shaft assembly.

15.

Using suitable tool, remove drive shaft seal from axle casing.

Inspection

1.

Inspect seal track on axle for surface damage. Replace with new component if damaged.

2.

Inspect seal locating bore and remove any sharp edges that may damage the new seal.

3.

Inspect axle breather for proper operation and verify it is not restricted or blocked.

Swivel Hub Alignment Check

Note: 

Swivel hub alignment is crucial to seal life.

Alignment must be checked and adjusted if necessary.

1.

Clean axle seal bore.

2.

Clean inside diameter of swivel hub to remove rust and dirt buildup.

3.

Using tool # LRT-54-006/1.

Turn clamp screw fully counterclockwise.

^

Ensure that clamp toggle rotates smoothly.
