Compression Check: Testing and Inspection

Compression Test 

WARNING: Make sure the parking brake is applied and the gear selector is in neutral (or park for vehicles with automatic transmission)
before beginning this procedure. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury. 

1. Remove the fuel pump relay.
2. Start the engine and allow to idle. > The engine will run for a few seconds then stall The engine will run for a few seconds then stall
3. Remove the spark plugs.
4. Install a compression tester.
5. Hold the accelerator pedal to the floor and crank the engine a minimum of five and a maximum of ten engine revolutions and record the reading.
6. Repeat the test on each cylinder, cranking the engine approximately the same number of compression strokes.

A reliable indicator of a problem is one cylinder reading lower than the others, rather than a minimum figure for all cylinders

7. Install the components in reverse order, observing the specified tightening torques.
8. Check and clear any DTCs.
