Valve Clearance: Adjustments

    Adjust valves with the engine cold. 

1.

Remove air intake chamber. Refer to CYLINDER HEAD & INTAKE.

Remove cylinder head covers.

3.

Set No. 1 cylinder to TDC. If No. 1 intake is loose and No. 1 exhaust is tight it is properly set. If not, turn crank one revolution and recheck.

All valve clearances should be .005-.009 inch for intake valves and .011-.015 inch for exhaust valves. Check the valves as follows:
a. With engine set at TDC, check valves in Fig. 18.
b. Rotate crank two-thirds (240°) and check valves in Fig. 19.
c. Rotate crank another two-thirds and check valves in Fig. 20.
