Removal

1.

Refer to Fig. 2 when removing rear axle hub and carrier.

2.

Remove rear axle hub as follows:
a.

Raise and support rear of vehicle, then remove rear wheel and tire assemblies.

b.

Place a dial indicator near the center of axle hub and check backlash in bearing shaft direction, Fig. 3.  Bearing backlash should not exceed
.0020 inch.  If backlash is greater than specified, replace bearing.

c.

Using a dial indicator, check deviation at surface of axle hub outside hub bolt, Fig. 4.  Maximum deviation should not exceed .0028 inch.  If
deviation is greater than specified, replace axle shaft and bearing.

d.

Remove four rear axle hub mounting bolts and rear axle hub, Fig. 5.

3.

Remove rear axle carrier as follows:
a.

Remove backing plate from rear axle carrier and hang up using mechanics wire. 

b.

Remove ABS speed sensor from rear axle carrier, Fig. 6.

c.

Disconnect LSPV spring from lower arm, Fig. 7.

d.

Disconnect strut rod from rear axle carrier.

e.

Remove three axle carrier nuts and bolts, then remove axle carrier.

Installation

1.

Refer to Fig.2 when installing rear axle hub and carrier.

2.

Install rear axle carrier as follows:
a.

Install rear axle carrier and temporarily install its three mounting bolts and nuts.

b.

Connect strut rod to rear axle carrier and temporarily install its bolt and nut.

c.

Torque two bolts on lower side of shock absorber to and lower arm bolt to specification.

d.

Install speed sensor to rear axle housing and torque its mounting bolt to specification.

e.

Connect LSPV spring to lower arm and torque to specification.

3.

Install rear axle hub as follows:
a.

Install parking brake assembly and new oil seal to axle carrier.

b.

Install axle hub and torque bolts to specification.

c.

Install rotor and disc brake assembly.
