Front Steering Knuckle: Service and Repair
Removal
AXLE: STEERING KNUCKLE: REMOVAL
REMOVAL
1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL
2. SEPARATE SPEED SENSOR FRONT (for 2WD) See: Wheel Hub/Service and Repair/Front Axle Hub/Removal
3. SEPARATE SPEED SENSOR FRONT (for 4WD) See: Wheel Hub/Service and Repair/Front Axle Hub/Removal
4. SEPARATE FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY See: Wheel Hub/Service and Repair/Front Axle Hub/Removal
5. REMOVE FRONT DISC See: Brakes and Traction Control/Disc Brake System/Service and Repair/Overhaul/Front Brake/Disassembly
6. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB NUT (for 4WD) See: Transmission and Drivetrain/Drive Axles, Bearings and Joints/Axle Shaft

7. SEPARATE LOWER BALL JOINT ASSEMBLY FRONT (for 4WD) See: Transmission and Drivetrain/Drive Axles, Bearings and Joints/Axle

8. SEPARATE TIE ROD ASSEMBLY (for 4WD) See: Transmission and Drivetrain/Drive Axles, Bearings and Joints/Axle Shaft Assembly/Service
and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Front Drive Shaft Assembly/Removal
9. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) See: Wheel Hub/Service and Repair/Front Axle Hub/Removal
10. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 4WD) See: Wheel Hub/Service and Repair/Front Axle Hub/Removal
11. REMOVE STEERING KNUCKLE
(a) Remove the clip and castle nut.
(b) Using SST, remove the steering knuckle from the upper suspension arm.
SST: 09628-00011

Pay careful attention not to damage the steering knuckle because it is made of aluminum and may damage easily.

Do not damage the ball joint dust cover.

Make sure that the SST is securely set to the steering knuckle spacer.

If the steering knuckle spacer has come off, replace the steering knuckle with a new one.

Make sure that the string of the SST is securely tied to the vehicle.
12. SEPARATE LOWER BALL JOINT ASSEMBLY FRONT (for 2WD)
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and steering knuckle from the lower ball joint.
