c) Using SST and a press, remove the No.1 dust deflector.

INSPECTION

1. INSPECT FLEXIBLE COUPLING

a) Check the front and rear flexible couplings for cracks or damage.

b) Inspect the flexible coupling centering bushing.

HINT:  If the bushing is damaged, replace the propeller shaft assembly.

2. INSPECT PROPELLER INTERMEDIATE SHAFT

a) Using a dial indicator, check the runout of the intermediate shaft.

Maximum runout: 0.8 mm (0.031 inch)

NOTICE:  The dial indicator must be set perpendicular to the center of the intermediate shaft.

HINT:  If the shaft runout exceeds the maximum, replace the intermediate shaft.

3. INSPECT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY

a) Using a dial indicator, check the runout of the propeller shaft.

Maximum runout: 0.8 mm (0.031 inch)

NOTICE:  The dial indicator must be set perpendicular to the center of the propeller shaft.

HINT:  If the shaft runout exceeds the maximum, replace the propeller shaft.
