2UR-GSE ENGINE MECHANICAL: CYLINDER HEAD GASKET: INSTALLATION

1. INSPECT CYLINDER HEAD SET BOLT See: Testing and Inspection/Engine Unit

2. INSTALL NO. 2 CYLINDER HEAD GASKET (for Bank 1)

(a) Place a new No. 2 cylinder head gasket the cylinder block surface with the Lot No. stamp facing upward.

NOTICE:
-

Be sure to place the gasket in the correct direction.

Gently place the cylinder head on the cylinder block in order to prevent damaging the gasket.

3. INSTALL CYLINDER HEAD SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Bank 1)

(a) Place the cylinder head sub- assembly on the cylinder block.

NOTICE:
-

Clean and degrease all contact surface.

-

Inspect and clean each cylinder head bolt and installation hole.

(b) Apply a light coat of engine oil to the threads and under the heads of the cylinder head bolts.

HINT: Tighten the cylinder head bolts in 3 progressive steps.

(c) Step 1:

(1) Using a 10 mm bi-hexagon wrench, install and uniformly tighten the 10 cylinder head bolts with the plate washers in several steps, in the

sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque: 36 Nm (367 kgf-cm, 27 ft-lbf)

(d) Step 2:

(1) Mark each cylinder head bolt head with paint as shown in the illustration.
(2) Tighten the cylinder head bolts another 90° in the sequence shown in step 1.

(e) Step 3:

(1) Tighten the cylinder head bolts by an additional 90° in the sequence shown in step 1.
