Axle Shaft Assembly: Service and Repair
Removal

DRIVE SHAFT / PROPELLER SHAFT: REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY: REMOVAL

DRIVE SHAFT / PROPELLER SHAFT: REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY: REMOVAL

HINT:

Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.

The procedures listed below are for the LH side.

1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL
2. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT

(a) Using SST and a hammer, release the staked part of the axle shaft nut.

SST: 09930-00010

NOTICE: Release the staked part of the nut completely, otherwise the threads of the drive shaft may be damaged.

(b) While depressing the brake pedal, remove the axle shaft nut.

3. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY See: Brakes and Traction Control/Parking Brake System/Service and

Repair/Disassembly

4. REMOVE REAR DISC See: Brakes and Traction Control/Disc Brake System/Service and Repair/Rear Brake/Removal

5. REMOVE NO. 2 DIFFERENTIAL SUPPORT PROTECTOR See: Steering and Suspension/Suspension/Suspension Strut / Shock

Absorber/Service and Repair/Rear Shock Absorber/Removal

6. REMOVE REAR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE See: Steering and Suspension/Suspension/Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber/Service and

Repair/Rear Shock Absorber/Removal

7. SEPARATE REAR SPEED SENSOR See: Wheel Hub/Service and Repair/Rear Axle Hub/Removal

8. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING See: Brakes and Traction Control/Parking Brake System/Service and

Repair/Disassembly

9. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING See: Brakes and Traction Control/Parking Brake System/Service and

Repair/Disassembly

10. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET See: Brakes and Traction Control/Parking Brake System/Service and

Repair/Disassembly
