Explanation of Campaigns
December 1, 1989
TO:
ALL LEXUS DEALERS, SERVICE AND PARTS MANAGERS
SUBJECT:
LEXUS SPECIAL SERVICE CAMPAIGNS # 901, # 902 AND # 903
Lexus will soon be initiating three Special Service Campaigns ("SSC") for LS 400 vehicles, two of these SSC's involve safety related items. They are as
follows:
SSC # 901
When using the cruise control, the actuator may not
release from its most recent setting preventing the engine from returning to idle speed.
To ensure that this condition does not occur, you are requested to replace the cruise control actuator with an improved version on all involved vehicles.
SSC # 902
Prolonged illumination of the center high mounted stop lamp
due to steady brake application, particularly under high ambient temperature conditions, may cause the lamp housing to become
distorted. Such distortion can adversely affect the photometric output of the lamp. To eliminate any possibility of lamp housing
distortion, you are requested to install a new heat resistant center high mounted stop lamp assembly on all involved vehicles.
In addition, a third non-safety related Special Service Campaign (SSC # 903) will be conducted to correct a possible loose wiring connector.
SSC # 903
A wiring connector at the alternator may not be fully inserted
into its socket, as a result, the battery charging rate can be diminished.
You are requested to inspect and ensure complete insertion of the alternator connector on all of the involved vehicles.
Notification letters, sample copies are attached, will be sent to vehicle owners on Tuesday, December 5, 1989. Enclosed you will find dealer/owner lists
