LS 460 RWD V8-4.6L (1UR-FSE) (2010)
Camshaft: Testing and Inspection
Camshaft (for Bank 1)
1UR-FSE ENGINE MECHANICAL: CAMSHAFT (for Bank 1): INSPECTION
1. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR ASSEMBLY
(a) Rotate the keyway part of the camshaft timing gear assembly's eccentric shaft by hand.
Standard:
Rotates smoothly
HINT
When rotating the eccentric shaft, the rotation will feel heavy due to the built-in spring. However, this is not a problem.
NOTICE:
*
Do not drop the camshaft timing gear assembly. If the gear is dropped, replace it.
*
Do not disassemble the camshaft timing gear assembly. If the gear is disassembled, replace it.
(b) If the result is not as specified, replace the camshaft timing gear assembly.
(c) Using a caliper gauge, measure the width of the keyway part of the camshaft timing gear assembly.
Standard width:
6.02 to 6.11 mm (0.237 to 0.241 in.)
(d) If the width is not as specified, calculate the clearance between the keyway part and the joint of the camshaft timing control with EDU motor.
(1) Using a vernier caliper, measure the width of the camshaft timing control with EDU motor joint.
Standard width:
5.90 to 5.95 mm (0.232 to 0.234 in.)
(2) Subtract the joint width measurement from the keyway part width measurement.
Standard clearance:
0.07 to 0.21 mm (0.00276 to 0.00827 in.)
Maximum clearance:
0.7 mm (0.0276 in.) or more
(3) If the clearance is more than the maximum, replace the camshaft timing gear assembly.
2. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING EXHAUST GEAR ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the camshaft bearing cap See: Service and Repair/Camshaft (For Bank 1)/Installation.
