(c) Inspect the joint clearance.

(1) Using a vernier caliper, measure the joint width.

Standard width:

5.90 to 5.95 mm (0.232 to 0.234 in.)

(2) Using a caliper gauge, measure the keyway part width of the camshaft timing gear assembly.

Standard width:

6.02 to 6.11 mm (0.237 to 0.241 in.)

(3) Subtract the joint width measurement from the keyway part width measurement.

Standard joint clearance:

0.07 to 0.21 mm (0.00276 to 0.00827 in.)

Maximum joint clearance:

0.7 mm (0.0276 in.) or more

(4) If the clearance is more than the maximum, replace the camshaft timing control with EDU motor assembly or camshaft timing gear

assembly.
