(b) Visually check for defects with the rear seat side airbag assembly removed from the vehicle.

(1) The defects are as follows:

*

Cuts on the surface of the rear seat side airbag assembly

*

Small cracks on the surface of the rear seat side airbag assembly

*

Marks from being dropped

*

Deformation on the installation part of the rear seat side airbag assembly

*

Cracks or other damage to the wire harness or connector

OK:

No defects are found.

HINT
If any of the defects is found, replace the rear seat assembly with a new one.

SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: REAR SEAT SIDE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY: ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

CAUTION:
Be sure to follow the correct removal and installation procedures of the rear seat assembly.

1. INSPECT REAR SEAT SIDE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (for Vehicle not Involved in Collision)

(a) Perform a diagnostic system check    See: Testing and Inspection/Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes/DTC Check / Clear.

(b) Visually check for defects with the rear seat side airbag assembly installed on the vehicle.

(1) The defects are as follows:

*

Cuts on the rear seatback assembly around the rear seat side airbag assembly

*

Small cracks on the rear seatback assembly around the rear seat side airbag assembly

*

Significant discoloration on the rear seatback assembly around the rear seat side airbag assembly

OK:

No defects are found.

HINT
If any of the defects is found, replace the rear seat assembly with a new one.

2. INSPECT REAR SEAT SIDE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (for Vehicle Involved in Collision and Airbag not Deployed)

(a) Perform a diagnostic system check    See: Testing and Inspection/Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes/DTC Check / Clear.
