Multifunction Electronic Control Module: Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

New Generation Star Tester Driven Diagnosis

Vehicle Set Up

1. Perform the following vehicle set-up prior to running any New Generation Star tests:

-

Shift transaxle to PARK

-

Apply parking brake

-

All switches and controls in the OFF position

-

Hookup New Generation Star Tester as described. See: Displaying and Reading Trouble Codes/New Generation Star Tester Usage/New
Generation Star Tester Hookup and Vehicle Selection

-

Close all doors, hood and luggage compartment door

-

Don't sit in driver's seat

-

Turn ignition switch to RUN

2. NOTE:

Do not touch any handle, control or switch that may produce a module input unless instructed to do so by New Generation Star program.

3. Perform Data Link Diagnostics Test as described. See: Displaying and Reading Trouble Codes/New Generation Star Tester Usage/Multiplex

Communication Network Data Link Diagnostics Test

If data link diagnostic test passed and concern(s) remains, go to Step 4.

-

If data link diagnostic test did not pass, go to Communication System Diagnostics. See: Displaying and Reading Trouble
Codes/Communication System Diagnostics

4. Retrieve continuous DTC's from selected module. See: Displaying and Reading Trouble Codes/New Generation Star Tester Usage/Retrieve/Clear

Continuous DTCS

5. Record all continuous DTC's

6. Clear all continuous DTC's from the selected module. See: Displaying and Reading Trouble Codes/New Generation Star Tester

Usage/Retrieve/Clear Continuous DTCS

7. NOTE:  The On-Demand Self-Test program for an individual module may produce observable outputs.

Perform On-Demand Self-Test on the selected module. See: Displaying and Reading Trouble Codes/New Generation Star Tester
Usage/On-Demand Self-Test

8. Record all On-Demand Self-Test DTC's

If DTCs ar retrieved, go to Diagnostic Trouble Codes to continue diagnosis

If no DTC's retrieved (On-Demand Self-Test passed) and concern(s) still remains, then go to Step 9

9. If continuous DTC's retrieved in Step 5, go to the Diagnostic Trouble Codes to continue diagnosis for all continuous DTC's. If no continuous

DTC's retrieved, then concern(s) is not related to J1850 or ISO 9141 communication network(s) and is not a module-monitored function. Return to
referred section for non-network related problem(s).
