1.
Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.
2.
Remove air cleaner, PCV hose and air intake duct, then disconnect electric choke heater tube, if applicable.
3.
Remove accelerator cable bracket, then disconnect all vacuum lines from manifold.
4.
Disconnect high tension lead and primary wiring connector from ignition coil, then remove coil and support bracket from manifold.
5.
Disconnect high tension leads from spark plugs, then remove distributor cap, adapter and high tension leads as an assembly.
6.
Disconnect fuel line from carburetor or fuel charging assembly on throttle body (fuel injected models). On fuel injected models, relieve fuel
pressure at Schrader type valve on fuel charging assembly before disconnecting fuel line.
7.
Disconnect vacuum hoses, if applicable, and electrical leads from distributor, then remove hold-down bolt and distributor. Mark position of rotor
to aid installation.
8.
Disconnect upper radiator hose and coolant temperature sending wire from manifold.
9.
Disconnect all remaining wiring that will interfere with manifold removal.
10.
Remove EGR cooler, if applicable, from rear of manifold.
11.
Remove intake manifold attaching bolts, then the intake manifold.
12.
Reverse procedure to install. Torque intake manifold bolts to 31-34 N-m (23-25 ft-lbs) in sequence shown in Fig. 5. Some 1982---85 V8-302
engines may exhibit engine oil leakage at the front or rear intake manifold end seals. To correct this condition, RTV sealer should be used
instead of the conventional cork seals provided in the gasket set. Remove intake manifold and gaskets, then clean cylinder block and
intake manifold sealing surfaces with suitable solvent. Install side runner gaskets onto cylinder block, then apply a {1-4} inch bead of
RTV sealer across the front and rear sealing surfaces of the cylinder block. When applying the sealer, ensure sealer does not get inside
engine, as damage may result. Install manifold and torque bolts to specifications.
