The air spring refolding procedure should only be used to service an air spring which has never supported the vehicle's weight while in the improperly
folded position. Improperly folded air springs found on vehicles during predelivery inspection or after customer mileage must be replaced. (Figures 23
and 24 identify typical front and rear spring conditions which require replacement.) When front air springs are replaced the height sensor must be
checked and replaced if damaged.
When installing a new air spring caution must be taken NOT to apply a load to the suspension until springs have been inflated using air spring fill
procedure (Section 14-40, Pages 48-52 of the 1984 Shop Manual). Failure to follow procedure properly can result in a mis-folded air spring and another
replacement may be necessary.
