ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM - INADVERTENT ACTIVATION OF ANTI-THEFT ON VEHICLES WITHOUT ANTI-THEFT
LINCOLN-MERCURY:

ISSUE:
Vehicles without Anti-Theft may become Anti-Theft enabled during an electrical harness or Lighting Control Module (LCM) repair. This is due to the
Anti-Theft Disable pin not being grounded while power is being applied to the LCM. As a result, a vehicle not properly equipped for the Anti-Theft
feature cannot be disarmed with the proper key inserted into the lock cylinder.
ACTION:
Refer to the following Service Procedure to avoid inadvertent Anti-Theft enabling.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
I.
REPLACING THE LCM AND DISCONNECTING THE CONNECTORS AT THE LCM
1.
Before removing the LCM, remove power from the vehicle by disconnecting the ground cable from the battery. Reapply power after the module
has been reconnected.
NOTE:
THIS IS THE RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE FOR REPLACING ANY MODULE ON A VEHICLE.
2.
When connecting the LCM, ensure that the gray 22-pin connector is connected first. The other two (2) connectors can then be installed in any
order, or reset the module as described in RESETTING THE LCM.
II.
RESETTING THE LCM
If the Anti-Theft is activated, resetting the LCM will correct the problem. It is not necessary to remove the LCM from the Instrument Panel (IP) to reset
it. With the module fully connected, either of the following procedures will reset the module:

Disconnect and reconnect the vehicle's battery.

Using the Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) Tester (002-00500), run the LCM self test.
After resetting the module, perform the test as described in the following dot point. If the Anti-Theft is still active, check the Anti-Theft Disable circuit
for an open.

Any time the module has been disconnected, perform the following test after reconnecting the module:
a.
Turn the ignition to run, then off.
b.
Open the driver's door. If the Anti-Theft lamp is flashing, reset the module as described above. Do not remove the Anti-Theft bulb or the
circuit to the Anti-Theft lamp. The Anti-Theft will still be active, causing inadvertent activation of the alarm.
c.
If the Anti-Theft lamp is not flashing, test the Anti-Theft indicator using the NGS. If the NGS is unable to turn on the Anti-Theft indicator,
check the bulb and circuit for the indicator and retest.
III.
IF ANOTHER COMPONENT OF THE VEHICLE IS SERVICED, AND THE LCM IS INADVERTENTLY AFFECTED, THE FOLLOWING
PROCEDURE SHOULD BE FOLLOWED
1.
The in-line connector that supplies ground to the LCM must be connected prior to the in-line connector that provides power. Information regarding
the connectors is as follows:
a.
The in-line connector between the 14401 and 14A488 wiring harnesses:

Plug the 84-way connector, 0212, before the 4-way connector, 0209.
