Fuel Injection Supply Manifold Assembly: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Remove engine appearance cover.

2. Disconnect battery ground cable and secure it out of the way.

NOTE:  When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control
module relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the adaptive strategy.

3. Remove fuel cap.

4. Release pressure from fuel system. 

5. Disconnect vacuum lines at fuel pressure regulator and intake manifold.

6. Disconnect retainers for the engine control sensor wiring from intake manifold studs and position engine control sensor wiring out of the way.

7. Disconnect engine control sensor wiring from the Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) deactivation motor.

8. Remove the IMRC deactivation motor and bracket from the RH valve cover and intake manifold. Position IMRC deactivation motor and bracket

out of the way.

9. Remove spring lock coupling retainer clip from fuel supply and return fittings.

NOTE:  The following items should be noted when service is required:

Use specified tool or equivalent.

^

Inspect for missing or damaged 0-rings.

^

Use the specified fuel resistant 0-rings (Brown).

^

Lubricate the 0-ring with clean engine oil.

Make sure that the fitting is locked.

10. Using Spring Lock Coupling Disconnect Tool D87L-9280-A (3/8 inch) or D87L-9280-B (1/2 inch) or equivalent, disconnect the fuel supply and

return hoses from the fuel injection supply manifold.

11. Remove eight fuel injection supply manifold retaining bolts (four on each side).

12. Carefully disengage fuel injection supply manifold and fuel injectors and remove fuel injection supply manifold.

NOTE:  It may be easier to remove fuel injectors with the fuel injection supply manifold as an assembly.

13. Use a rocking, side-to-side motion while lifting to remove fuel injectors from fuel injection supply manifold.
