Idle Speed/Throttle Actuator - Electronic: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

NOTE:  When the battery has been disconnected or reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module
(PCM) relearns its strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.

2. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube.
3. Disconnect the engine control sensor wiring from the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve.
4. Remove accelerator cable shield from accelerator cable bracket.
5. Remove accelerator cable from the throttle body lever and remove accelerator cable bracket from the throttle body. Position accelerator cable

bracket out of the way.

6. Remove the two idle air control valve retaining screws.
7. Remove the IAC valve.
8. Remove and discard IAC valve gasket.

 
INSTALLATION

1. Clean IAC valve gasket mating surfaces.

NOTE:  If scraping is necessary, do not damage idle air control valve or intake manifold and idle air control valve gasket surfaces, or drop
material into intake manifold.

2. Using a new idle air control valve gasket, install idle air control valve. Tighten retaining screws to 8-11 Nm (71-97 lb in). Rotate screws an

additional 85-95 degrees.

3. Install accelerator cable bracket to throttle body. Tighten retaining bolts to 8-12 Nm (71-106 lb in).
4. Install accelerator cable onto throttle body lever and install accelerator cable shield. Tighten retaining screws securely.
5. Connect engine control sensor wiring to the IAC valve.
6. Install air cleaner outlet tube.
7. Connect battery ground cable.
