LAMP - MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP (MIL) ILLUMINATION - DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) P1518 - NO
DRIVEABILITY CONCERNS - VEHICLES BUILT 11/28/94 THROUGH 8/1/95
LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1995 CONTINENTAL
CALIBRATION:
5-38D-R05, 5-38D-R10, 5-38R-R05, 5-38R-R10
WARNING:
THIS MODIFICATION IS AUTHORIZED ONLY FOR THE LISTED ENGINE. PERFORMING THIS MODIFICATION ON OTHER ENGINE
CALIBRATIONS IS UNAUTHORIZED AND COULD CREATE LIABILITY UNDER APPLICABLE FEDERAL OR LOCAL LAWS.
ISSUE:
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may illuminate and Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1518 may be stored in memory. There will be no
driveability concerns present. This may be due to the Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) actuator assembly having sharp bends between flat areas
of the actuator switch.
ACTION:
Replace the IMRC actuator assembly and reprogram or replace the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The new IMRC actuator assembly has been
revised to provide a more uniform movement of the actuator switch. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
NOTE:
DEALERS WITH SERVICE BAY DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM (SBDS) ARE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN REGIONAL APPROVAL WHEN IT IS
NECESSARY TO REPLACE THE PCM.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Perform normal diagnostics. If the vehicle repeats the subject code, continue with the following Steps.
2.
Reprogram the PCM using the latest Service level for 1995 model (Federal) year calibrations. For green states (California), use the 1996 model
year calibrations.
3.
Install a new IMRC actuator assembly following the procedure outlined in the 1995 Continental Service Manual.
