Side Air Bag: Service and Repair
Passenger Side Air Bag
REMOVAL
NOTE: If the passenger side air bag module did not deploy, it may not have been needed. Complete all diagnosis before replacing the passenger side air
bag module.
1. Record pre-set radio frequencies for reprogramming following completion of service procedures.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable and wait one minute for backup power supply to deplete its stored energy.
WARNING: The electrical circuit necessary for system deployment is powered directly from the battery. To avoid accidental deployment
and possible personal injury, the battery ground cable must be disconnected prior to servicing or replacing any system components.
3. Open glove compartment and rotate all the way down, past the stops.
4. Disconnect passenger air bag connector.
5. Remove three bolts retaining lower passenger air bag mounting bracket to instrument panel steel bracket through the glove compartment opening.
6. Remove passenger side air bag module by pushing on passenger side air bag module from inside panel. Do not handle passenger side air bag
module by grabbing edges of deployment doors.
WARNING: Place air bag module on bench with trim cover facing up to avoid personal injury.
INSTALLATION
NOTE: Fill out and return air bag traceability postcard for new air bag with VIN numbers and note diagnostic trouble code.
1. Insert passenger side air bag module into space in instrument panel.
2. From the glove compartment opening, install three bolts retaining the lower passenger air bag mounting bracket to the instrument panel steel
bracket. Tighten to 7.5-10.5 Nm (66-92 in lbs).
WARNING: All three retaining bolts must be installed when replacing passenger side air bag module.
