TRANSAXLE - AX4N - "TICKING" NOISE HEARD IN TRANSAXLE AREA - VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 2/1/95
LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1995 CONTINENTAL
ISSUE:
A "ticking" noise may be heard in the transaxle area. This noise may be heard when the transaxle is in "PARK" at normal operating temperature and the
engine is idling. This may be caused by the Electronic Pressure Control (EPC) solenoid calibrated at a low pressure setting.
ACTION:
Replace the EPC solenoid and main control cover gasket. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Verify the "ticking" noise is caused by the EPC solenoid by disconnecting the transaxle wire harness connector at the transaxle while the "ticking"
noise is present.
2.
If the noise goes away with the transaxle wire harness connector disconnected, replace the EPC solenoid (F5DZ-7H1 44-A) and the main control
cover gasket (F5DZ-7F396-A). Refer to the Service Manual for removal and installation procedures.
3.
Clear all diagnostic trouble codes that may have been set when disconnecting the transaxle harness connector.
