Crankshaft Main Bearing: Testing and Inspection
Cleaning and Inspection
1. Inspect the bearings for the following defects. Possible causes are shown:

Catering - fatigue failure (A).

Spot polishing - improper seating (B).

Scratching - dirty (C).
-
Base exposed - poor lubrication (D).
-
Both edges worn - journal damaged (E).
-
One edge worn - journal tapered or bearing not seated (F).
2. If it is out of specification, replace as necessary.
