Drive Belt: Service and Repair

NOTE:  Cracks on the rib side of a drive belt are considered acceptable. If the drive belt has chunks missing from the ribs or if two or more adjacent ribs
have lost sections 13mm (0.512on.) or longer, or if the missing chunks are creating a noise, vibration, or harshness (NVH) condition, install a new drive
belt.

Conditions requiring drive belt replacement are rib chunk-out, severe glazing, frayed cords, or other concerns. If any drive belt exhibits one of these
conditions, install a new drive belt.

Removal and Installation

1. Remove the bolts and position the power steering reservoir aside.

2. Raise the vehicle.

3. Remove the bolts, pin-type retainers and air deflector.

4. WARNING: Do not allow drive belt tensioner to snap back as damage to drive belt tensioner or personal injury could result.

Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise with a breaker bar installed in the .375in square hole in the drive belt tensioner.

5. Remove the drive belt from the lower pulleys.

6. Lower the vehicle.

7. Remove the drive belt.

8. NOTE:  Make sure the drive belt is correctly installed on each pulley.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
