Camshaft Gear/Sprocket: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Remove the engine front cover.
CAUTION: At no time, when the timing chain(s) are removed and the cylinder heads are installed, may the crankshaft and/or the camshaft be
rotated without following established procedures. Failure to follow these directions will result in valve and/or piston damage.
2. Remove the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP) pulse wheel.
3. The timing marks on the camshaft sprocket must be on the top of both sprockets as shown.
4. Position the piston, pin and ring of the No. 1 cylinder to Top Dead Center (TDC).
5. Install Camshaft Holding Tool onto camshaft to keep the camshafts from rotating and to prevent deformation of camshaft positioning tool.
CAUTION: Failure to use Camshaft Holding Tool while assembling or disassembling timing chains will result in damage to D-slots or Camshaft
Positioning Tool.
