7. Inspect CV joint grease for contamination.
^
Check lubricant for contamination by rubbing between two fingers. Any gritty feeling indicates a contaminated joint.
^
If the lubricant appears contaminated, proceed with a complete CV joint disassembly and inspection.
NOTE: If the CV joints are operating satisfactorily, and the grease does not appear to be contaminated, add grease and replace the front
wheel driveshaft joint boot.
8. Remove and discard the circlip.
CAUTION: DO NOT reuse the circlip. Replace the used circlip with a new circlip before assembly.
NOTE: The stop ring, located just below the circlip, should be removed only if it is damaged, worn or otherwise unserviceable.
9. Clamp the front wheel driveshaft joint in a vise.
NOTE: To prevent front wheel driveshaft joint damage, use a vise equipped with soft jaws or wood blocks.
10. Press down on the inner race until it tilts enough to allow removal of the ball.
