WARNING:  Use of any other than approved DOT 3 motor vehicle brake fluid will cause permanent damage to brake components and will
render the brakes inoperative. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

CAUTION:  Brake fluid is harmful to painted and plastic surfaces. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash it with
water.

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. 
2. Disconnect the brake fluid level warning switch electrical connector.

3. CAUTION:  For vehicles with 4.6L engines, brake booster vacuum hose is routed over the top of the EGR valve; do not route it under the valve.

Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose from the brake booster vacuum fitting.

4. Remove the 2 nuts and position the brake master cylinder aside.

To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

5. NOTE:  The brake pedal must be connected to the booster rod before removing the speed control deactivator switch.

Remove the speed control deactivator switch from the brake pedal bracket.

6. Remove the redundant self-locking pin cover and the self-locking pin.
7. Position the stoplamp switch, booster rod and bushing from the brake pedal pin.
8. Remove the 4 brake booster nuts.

To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
