CLICKING/TICKING NOISE FROM STEERING TSB
COLUMN VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 5/31/2005

ISSUE
Some 2004-2005 F-150 (excluding Heritage) and 2006 Lincoln Mark LT vehicles built before 5/31/2005, may exhibit a slight clicking or ticking noise
from the steering wheel/steering column area while driving. The noise concern is typically heard below 40 MPH (64 km/h), over moderately rough road
or parking lot surfaces.
ACTION
Verify the noise is coming from the intermediate shaft before beginning repairs. To verify, with the vehicle parked and ignition off, hold the steering
column upper intermediate shaft with one turn the steering wheel rapidly from side-to-side with the other hand. If there is a clicking/ticking noise, and at
the same time a vibration feel of the intermediate shaft, then replace the intermediate shaft. Refer to Workshop Manual Section 211-04. no noise is heard,
do not perform this TSB. Continue with normal diagnostic procedures.
