ISSUE:

Accessory drive belt squeal during engine start-up and/or under heavy acceleration may be caused by a weak, automatic belt tensioner.

ACTION:

To correct this, install an improved tensioner which has a stronger spring. Refer to the following service procedure.

1.

Check to see if squeal is coming from accessory drive belt.

2.

If it is, remove existing automatic belt tensioning assembly and replace it with a new belt tensioner (E7LY-6B209-A). Refer to Section 27-02 of
the 1986-88 Car Shop Manual.
