Black exhaust smoke, rich running engine, rough idle and/or unsatisfactory fuel economy can be caused by improperly routed (kinked) vacuum hose
which restricts vacuum flow to MAP sensor.

1.

Inspect vacuum hose routed from vacuum source to MAP sensor.

2.

If hose is pinched or kinked, remove and replace with new hose and reroute in a manner to ensure there are no kinks and/or potential obstructions.

3.

Check all vacuum hose connections to ensure there are no vacuum leaks.

4.

If symptoms continue to exist, perform EEC Quick Test, by referring to procedure in the 1986 Emission Diagnosis Car Shop Manual, Volume H.
