Control Arm: Service and Repair
MARK VII & 1984---87 CONTINENTAL
Upper Arm
Always replace control arm in pairs. If one arm requires replacement, replace the same arm on the opposite side of the vehicle.
1.
Turn air suspension switch off.
2.
Raise and support vehicle, then disconnect rear height sensor from side arm. Note position of sensor adjustment bracket to aid in reassembly.
3.
Remove upper arm to axle and upper arm to frame bracket pivot bolts and nuts.
4.
Remove upper control arm.
5.
Reverse procedure to install. Torque pivot bolts to 100 ft. lbs.
Lower Arm
1.
Turn air suspension switch to off position, then raise and support vehicle and remove wheel assembly.
2.
Vent air springs to atmosphere by removing air spring solenoid.
3.
Remove the two air spring to lower control arm retaining bolts, and remove air spring from lower arm.
4.
Remove control arm to frame and control arm to axle bracket pivot bolts and nuts.
5.
Remove lower control arm.
6.
Reverse procedure to install. Torque pivot bolts to 100 ft. lbs.
