SERVICE ACTION:
Perform the following to service the noise concern.
1.
Install Fuel Pump RFI filter (F1PZ-18B925-A) as described in TSB 92-6.
2.
Replace the JBL amplifier with a repaired JBL amplifier available from the local Ford Audio Systems Authorized Distributor.

AM static - on strong stations, poor reception, fading under bridges and overpasses.
Perform the following checks to verify the noise cause.
1.
Tune to a weak AM radio station.
2.
Note the reception performance on this station.
3.
Continue listening to this station while performing the following steps.
4.
Note if there is any change in reception when the connection is moved, rotated, wiggled, or otherwise disturbed. If so, the connection is defective.
5.
Replace the ENTIRE antenna cable with a one-piece antenna cable kit (F1VY-18812-A).

Ignition System AM Interference:

Tune in a weak AM radio station.

Vary the engine RPM.
^
Listen for ignition noise. The frequency varies with engine RPM.
2.
Charging System (Alternator) AM Interference:

Engine running.
^
Tune in a weak AM radio station.

Vary the engine RPM.
^
Listen for alternator whine. The frequency varies with engine RPM.
