Hydraulic Control Assembly - Antilock Brakes: Service and Repair

1.

Relieve system hydraulic pressure by turning ignition off and pumping brake pedal at least 20 times until an increase in pedal force is felt.

2.

Disconnect battery ground cable.

3.

Disconnect electrical connectors from reservoir cap, main valve, solenoid valve body, pressure warning switch and hydraulic pump motor, Fig. 8.

4.

Disconnect ground connector from master cylinder.

5.

Disconnect and plug brake tubes from solenoid valve body.

6.

Disconnect stop lamp switch electrical connector from brake pedal.

7.

Remove hairpin connector from stop lamp switch on brake pedal, then slide switch far enough for switch outer hole to clear the pin. Carefully
remove switch using a twisting motion.

8.

Remove 4 retaining nuts from inside passenger compartment.

9.

Remove hydraulic unit from dash panel through engine compartment.

10.

Reverse procedure to install. Torque hydraulic unit locknuts to 13---25 ft. lbs.
