Oil Pan: Service and Repair
EXC. 1982 & 1988 CONTINENTAL V6-232
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable and remove air cleaner assembly.
2.
Disconnect accelerator cable and kickdown rod from throttle.
3.
Remove accelerator mounting bracket bolts and bracket, then the EGR valve and cooler, if applicable.
4.
Remove fan shroud attaching screws and position shroud over fan.
5.
Disconnect wiper motor electrical connector and remove wiper motor.
6.
Disconnect windshield washer hose.
7.
Remove wiper motor mounting cover.
8.
Remove oil level dipstick, then the dipstick tube retaining bolt from exhaust manifold.
9.
If equipped with EGR cooler, remove Thermactor air dump tube retaining clamp, then the Thermactor crossover tube at rear of engine.
10.
Raise and support vehicle, then drain engine oil.
11.
Remove starter motor.

Disconnect fuel tank fuel line at fuel pump and plug line. Vehicles equipped with electronic fuel injection have high pressure at the electric
fuel pump. Pressure must be relieved at the schrader type valve on the fuel charging assembly (CFI), or at valve on metal fuel rail located
at LH front corner of engine (SFI) before disconnecting fuel lines.

Disconnect exhaust pipes from manifolds.
14.
If equipped with EGR cooler, remove thermactor secondary air tube to converter housing clamps.
15.
On all models, remove dipstick tube from oil pan.
16.
Loosen transmission mount attaching nuts.
17.
Remove engine mount through bolts.
18.
Remove shift crossover bolts at transmission.
19.
On all models, disconnect transmission kickdown rod.
20.
Remove brake line retainer from front crossmember.
21.
With a suitable jack, raise engine as far as possible.
22.
Place a block of wood between each engine mount and chassis bracket. When engine is secured in this position, remove jack, then the low oil level
sensor, if equipped.
23.
If equipped, remove stabilizer bar attaching bolts and lower stabilizer bar.
24.
Remove transmission cooling line clamp retaining bolt, then position cooling lines aside.
25.
Remove oil pan attaching bolts and lower pan to crossmember.
26.
Remove oil pickup tube and oil pump retaining nuts and bolts, then lower tube and oil pump into oil pan.
27.
Remove oil pan, together with pump, through front of vehicle.
28.
Reverse procedure to install.
