CALIBRATIONS IS UNAUTHORIZED AND COULD CREATE LIABILITY UNDER APPLICABLE FEDERAL OR LOCAL LAWS.
ISSUE:
While in 4th gear, the driver may depress the accelerator pedal partially or fully which may result in a higher than expected increase in engine rpm
followed by a bump during the downshift. There may also be a shudder while coasting down from a speed greater than 32 km/h (20 mph) (3rd gear) as
the driver steps onto the accelerator pedal lightly at 24-29 km/h (15-18 mph) during the 3-2 downshift.
ACTION:
Replace or reprogram (using Service Bay Diagnostic System (SBDS)) the PCM with a new PCM (see Application Chart) which has revised calibrations
to correct the above mentioned concerns. Refer to the 1996 Mark VIII Service Manual for removal and installation procedures.
NOTE:
DEALERS WITH SBDS ARE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN REGIONAL APPROVAL WHEN IT IS NECESSARY TO REPLACE THE PCM.
Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent
to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover
it with a clear plastic decal shield.
