EGR Valve: Service and Repair

EGR Valve

REMOVAL

1. Remove engine appearance cover, air cleaner outlet tube and engine intake air resonator.
2. Remove windshield wiper module assembly.
3. Disconnect vacuum hose from Exhaust Recirculation (EGR) valve.
4. With a 22mm crowfoot wrench, completely loosen the top EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube nut from valve.
5. Remove two retaining bolts from valve and remove gasket from intake manifold.

INSTALLATION

1. Clean intake manifold sealing surface with a plastic-tipped scraper to remove any residual gasket material.
2. Position EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube into EGR valve and loosely connect EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube nut to EGR valve.
3. Install new EGR valve gasket and bolts retaining EGR valve to intake manifold. Tighten bolts to 20-30 Nm (15-22 lb ft).
4. Tighten EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube nut at EGR valve to 40-45 Nm (30-33 lb ft).
5. Connect vacuum hose to EGR valve.
6. Install windshield wiper module assembly.
7. Install engine appearance cover, air cleaner outlet tube and engine intake air resonator.
