Air Flow Meter/Sensor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

CAUTION:  The mass air flow sensor hot wire sensing element and housing are calibrated as a unit and must be serviced as a complete assembly. Do
not damage the sensing element (internal to housing) or possible failure of the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor may occur.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

NOTE:  When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control
Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.

2. Disconnect engine control sensor wiring from MAF sensor.
3. Loosen engine air cleaner tube clamp on air cleaner outlet tube. Disconnect air cleaner outlet tube from MAF sensor.
4. Remove MAF sensor to engine air cleaner retaining bolts and remove sensor.
5. To install, reverse Removal procedure. Tighten retaining bolts to 2.5-3.5 Nm (22-31 lb in). Tighten engine air cleaner tube clamp to 1.4-2.5 Nm

(12-22 lb in). Connect engine control sensor wiring to MAF sensor.
