Side Air Bag: Service and Repair
Passenger Side Air Bag

1. Disarm air bag system.

2. Remove headlamp switch knob and shaft.
3. Pull on lefthand end of lefthand instrument panel finish panel to unsnap from instrument panel. Detach bulb and socket from finish panel.
4. Remove two screws attaching headlamp switch to instrument panel finish panel.
5. Remove autolamp dimmer switch from cluster finish panel, then disconnect wiring harness.
6. Remove two screws attaching lefthand end finish panel to instrument panel.
7. Remove two screws located at top of instrument cluster opening attaching instrument panel finish panel.
8. Remove two screw attaching lefthand lower instrument panel insulator to instrument panel. Detach bulb and socket from panel.
9. Remove two screws attaching lower steering column cover to instrument panel, then the cover.

10. Remove upper and lower steering gear housing from steering column tube.
11. Remove two screws attaching upper shroud extension to instrument panel. Attaching screws are accessed through lower steering column tube and

instrument panel.

12. From righthand side of cluster finish panel disengage eight retainers, then remove the finish panel.
13. From righthand end, disengage finish panel from instrument panel.
14. Open glove compartment door, then push inward at both sides of door and allow door to drop fully open.
15. Remove two screws attaching defroster duct, then the duct.
16. Through glove compartment opening, remove two screws retaining lower portion of passenger's air bag module.
17. Remove three screws attaching passenger's air bag module to instrument panel.
18. Disconnect electrical connector from left side of air bag module.
19. Remove passenger's air bag from instrument panel.
20. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a. Tighten lower screws to 62-97 in lb, and upper screws to 9-18 in lb.
b. Arm air bag system.
