Mark VIII V8-4.6L DOHC (1996)
Control Arm: Service and Repair
Lower
NOTE: Do not begin procedure unless a new hub retainer nut is available. Once removed, this part cannot be reused during assembly.
1. Turn air suspension OFF. Raise and support rear of vehicle, then remove rear knuckle/hub assembly.
2. Deflate rear air springs and disengage height sensor from lower arm ball stud attachment (lefthand only). Ensure the integral lower air spring clip
is disengaged from lower arm.
3. Disconnect rear stabilizer bar straps from emergency brake cables (both sides).
4. Remove rear stabilizer bar link nuts at their lower arm attachment ends.
5. Remove link bushings and push link ends up and out of lower arm, then rotate bar and link assembly out of the way.
6. Mark toe adjustment cam-to-subframe position. Loosen both pivot attachment nuts at lower arm to subframe positions but do not remove bolts.
7. Remove shock absorber to lower control arm bolt.
8. Remove inner pivot bolts and nuts.
9. Remove lower control arm from vehicle.
10. Reverse procedure to install, ensuring air spring assembly is fully seated and the spring is not kinked.
