3.5L GTDI - RUNS ROUGH, HESITATES, WITH MISFIRE DTCS P0316, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306

ISSUE
Some 2010-2011 Taurus, Flex MKS and MKT vehicles equipped with a 3.5L Gas Turbo Direct Injected (GTDI) engine with an engine build date on or
before 8/2/2010 may exhibit the service engine soon indicator illuminated, runs rough, hesitates, and misfire diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0316,
P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306.

ACTION

Follow the Service Procedure to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1.

Verify engine build date. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303.

a. If engine build date is on or before 8/2/2010 proceed to Step 2.

b. If engine build date is on or after 8/3/2010, do not continue this article. Refer to Powertrain Controls/Emission Diagnosis (PC/ED) Manual for

further diagnostics.

2.

Retrieve DTCs to determine which cylinder has misfired.

3.

Remove the spark plug of the affected cylinder. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-07.
