This article supersedes TSB 10-5-6 to update the vehicle lines, Service Procedure, Part List and Service Labor Time Standards.
ISSUE
Some 2009-2011 MKS, Flex, 2010-2011 Taurus, MKT vehicles built on or before 7/28/2010 and some 2010-2011 Taurus SHO equipped with the
Performance Package (PP) built on or before 8/10/2010 may exhibit intermittent grunt or grinding noise from the front brakes.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
2010-2011 Taurus SHO Equipped With PP - Built On Or Before 8/10/2010
The Taurus SHO with the PP is equipped with performance brake pads. It is not necessary to replace the pads on these vehicles.
NOTE
DO NOT REMOVE THE PADS FROM THE CALIPER.
1. Remove front brake rotors and discard. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 206-03
2. Discard the anchor brackets.
3. Install new front brake rotors and anchor brackets. Refer to (WSM), Section 206-03
4. Reassemble vehicle.
2009-2011 MKS, Flex, 2010-2011 Taurus, Taurus
SHO (Except PP) And MKT - Built On Or Before
7/28/2010
1. Remove front brake rotors and discard. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 206-03
2. Discard the anchor brackets.
3. Install new front brake rotors, anchor brackets, and new front brake pad kit with pad separator springs. Refer to (WSM), Section 206-03 and brake
kit instruction sheet.
4. Reassemble vehicle.
NOTE
FAILURE TO APPLY THE GREASE MAY RESULT IN UNACCEPTABLE BRAKE NOISE AT LOWER SPEEDS UNDER LIGHT BRAKING.
NOTE
GREASE SHOULD NOT BE APPLIED TO OTHER COMPONENTS LIKE PINS OR SHIMS. DURING BRAKE INSPECTION, LOOK FOR
FOREIGN OBJECTS TRAPPED BETWEEN THE DUST SHIELD AND ROTOR. THESE CAN CAUSE NOISE DURING BRAKING AND
OFF-BRAKE CONDITIONS.
