ISSUE
Some 2005-2006 Navigators built prior to 10/4/2005 may exhibit a loud squeal/squeak noise on the driver's side, when retracting/stowing the deployable
running boards. The concern is most present when the vehicle is at normal operating temperature. If the running board is cold, drive the vehicle first, to
duplicate the concern.
ACTION
This concern may be due to a misaligned snap ring inside the drive arm assembly. Replace drive arm assembly with certified parts. Only parts built after
9/26/2005 date code should be used to fix this concern. The date code label is found on the drive arm assembly body.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
NOTE
REFER TO WORKSHOP MANUAL, SECTION 501-08 FOR THE FOLLOWING STEPS AS NEEDED.
1.
Remove the retractable running board.
2.
Remove drive arm assembly.
3.
Remove drive motor and running board sensor wire harness.
NOTE
MAKE NOTE OF THE POSITION OF THE SENSORS. IF INSTALLED BACKWARDS, THE RUNNING BOARD WILL NOT
RETRACT/DEPLOY CORRECTLY.
4.
Transfer drive motor and sensor wire harness to new drive arm assembly
5.
Install drive arm assembly.
6.
Apply grease to the pivot shaft and inside surface of the outer pivot shaft seal.
7.
Install the running board assembly. Use the torque sequence shown for the running board bracket bolts (Figure 1).
