Affected Vehicles:
1991-1992 Lincoln Town Car Hood Latch
Removal
1.
Open hood and remove the hood latch cable retainer. Refer to illustration in the 1991 Town Car, Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis Shop
Manual in section 44-08.
2.
Remove the hood latch retaining screws and remove the hood latch assembly.
3.
Remove the one cable retaining screw and disengage the cable from the hood latch assembly.
Installation
1.
Reassemble the hood latch release cable to the hood latch assembly and install one retaining screw. Tighten to 1.8-2.6N-m (1.5-2.1 lb-ft.)
2.
Position the latch to vehicle and install the two retaining screws.
Note that the hood latch may not fit because the locating pins on the new latch may not have corresponding holes in the radiator support. In this event,
drive out the locating pins from the latch with a hammer and punch, bracing the latch over vice jaws so as not to distort the latch. These pins are for
production assembly only.
Also note that in some cases the attaching screws may not fit. Reuse the original screws in this event.
3.
Adjust the hood latch as described in Shop Manual section 44-08. Tighten the attaching screws to 9-14 N-m (7-10 lb-ft.).
