Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair
Harness Connectors
Exhaust Manifold Tightening Sequence
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Remove air inlet tube.
3.
Drain cooling system, then remove cooling fan and shroud.
4.
Relieve fuel system fuel pressure. Refer to MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF elsewhere in this
section.
5.
Remove upper radiator hose.
6.
Remove wiper module and support bracket, then discharge refrigerant from system.
7.
Disconnect A/C compressor outlet hose at compressor, then remove bolt retaining hose assembly to right coil bracket.
8.
Remove 42-pin engine harness connector from retaining bracket on brake vacuum booster.
9.
Disconnect 42-pin connector and transmission harness connector, Fig. 7.
10.
Remove oil dipstick tube, on left exhaust manifold, then disconnect throttle valve cable from throttle body.
11.
Disconnect heater outlet hose, then remove ground strap to right cylinder head.
12.
Remove upper stud, then loosen lower bolt retaining heater outlet hose to right cylinder head and position aside.
13.
Remove blower motor resistor.
14.
Remove right engine insulator, then disconnect vacuum hoses from EGR valve and EGR tube.
15.
Remove EGR valve assembly attaching bolts, then disconnect HEGO sensor.
16.
Raise and support vehicle.
17.
Remove two through bolts for left engine insulator and one through bolt for the right.
18.
Remove EGR tube line nut from right manifold, then remove EGR assembly.
19.
Disconnect exhaust from right and left manifolds, then suspend with wire.
20.
Position a suitable jack and block of wood under oil pan, then raise engine approximately 4 inches.
21.
If removing left manifold, remove engine insulator from cylinder block, then remove attaching bolts and manifold.
22.
If removing right manifold, remove attaching bolts and manifold.
23.
Reverse procedure to install. Torque manifold bolts to specification in sequence shown in Fig. 8.
