Fuel Injector: Service and Repair

Fuel Rail Assembly

REMOVAL:

1.

Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2.

Remove the fuel cap and release the fuel tank pressure.

3.

Relieve the fuel system pressure, refer to MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF.

4.

Remove the fuel supply manifold, refer to FUEL SUPPLY MANIFOLD.

5.

Remove the fuel injector electrical connectors.

6.

Lift injectors out of the manifold while gently rocking from side to side.

7.

Inspect the injector O-rings for deterioration and replace as needed.

8.

Inspect the injector "plastic hat" and washer for signs of deterioration, replace as required.

INSTALLATION:

1.

Lubricate the two injector O-rings with clean engine oil and install two on each injector.

CAUTION:  DO NOT use silicone grease.  It will clog the injectors.

2.

Install the injectors using a light, twisting, pushing motion.

3.

Install the fuel rail assembly.

4.

Install the injector electrical connectors./

5.

Install the fuel filler cap.

6.

Connect the negative battery cable.

7.

Turn the ignition switch ON/OFF several times to pressurize the fuel system, then check for leaks.
