Timing Cover: Service and Repair
If necessary to replace the cover oil seal the cover must first be removed.

1.
Drain cooling system and crankcase.
2.
Remove fan shroud attaching bolts and position shroud over engine fan.
3.
Remove engine fan, spacer and shroud.
4.
Remove drive belts and A/C idler pulley bracket.
5.
Remove power steering pump and position aside.
6.
Remove all accessory brackets attached to water pump, then remove water pump pulley.
7.
Disconnect lower radiator hose, heater hose and bypass hose from water pump.
8.
Remove crankshaft pulley from vibration damper.
9.
Remove damper attaching screw and washer, then using a suitable puller, remove damper.
10.
If applicable, disconnect fuel pump outlet line, then remove fuel pump attaching bolts and position pump aside.
11.
Remove oil level dip stick.
12.
Remove oil pan to front cover attaching bolts.
13.
Remove front cover to engine block attaching bolts, then remove front cover and water pump as an assembly. Use a thin blade knife to cut oil
pan gasket flush with cylinder block face prior to separating front cover from cylinder block.
14.
Reverse procedure to install.
