to diagnose the Fuel Gauge System without dropping the fuel tank involves breaking into the 14401 wire harness connector under the instrument panel
and tapping into circuit No. 29 (Fuel Gauge System). To properly identify the 14401 wire harness connector location and circuit No. 29 refer to Figure 9.
1.
Locate and disconnect the gray or green connector (part of -14401-). Location of each connector for each car line can be found in Figure 9.
2.
Rotunda Tester No. 021-00034 (Older Model)
a.
Attach a jumper wire to proper pin location circuit No. 29 (as shown in Figure 9) of -14401- connector.
b.
Attach other end of jumper wire to the proper terminal (marked with an arrow) on the gauge system tester.
c.
Connect test ground to the vehicle ground.
Rotunda Tester No. 021-00038 (New Model)
a.
Attach one lead of gauge system tester to the proper pin location circuit No. 29 (as shown in Figure 9) of the -14401- connector.
b.
Attach the other lead of the gauge system tester to the vehicle ground.
3.
Proceed with system testing as outlined in Shop Manual (Section 33-20) or tester instructions.
