Lamp Out Indicator: Description and Operation

The lamp-out warning system monitors low beam headlamps, tail lamps and brake lamps. Each assembly is equipped with three outputs connected to
the electronic message center module which displays the appropriate warning message. Lamp outages are sensed by measuring change in voltage drop
across a section of wiring harness by a transistor-diode bridge which provides logic level signals to external message center. The lamp-out warning
module contains a printed circuit board and logic circuitry. Normal operating voltage is 10---15 volts, however the unit will withstand up to 24 volts for a
period of 15 minutes. The lamp-out warning system operates when ignition is in ACC or RUN position. If one or more low beam lamps are burned
out when headlamps are energized in low beam mode, the headlamp outage message will flash. The tail lamp outage indicator will flash when headlamp
switch is energized and one or more tail lamps are burned out. The brake lamp outage indicator will flash when brake or turn signal is applied and one or
more brake lamps are burned out. The brake lamp indicator will also be illuminated if turn signal or emergency flasher is activated with message center
on and one or more lamps burned out. When the ``check out'' button on message center is depressed with ignition in ACC or RUN position, all
lamp-out warning displays should illuminate.
