1.
Raise car on hoist and remove wheels.
2.
Drain differential lubricant.
3.
Remove brake drums.
4.
Remove differential housing cover.
5.
Position safety stands under rear frame member and lower hoist to allow axle to lower as far as possible.
6.
Working through differential case opening, remove pinion shaft lock bolt and pinion shaft.
7.
Push axle shaft inward toward center of axle housing and remove C-lock(s) from housing, Fig. 2.
8.
Remove axle shaft, using extreme care to avoid contact of shaft seal lip with any portion of axle shaft except seal journal.
9.
Use a hook-type puller to remove seal and bearing, Fig. 3.
10.
Reverse procedure to install, using suitable driving tools to install seal and bearing. Lubricate new bearing with rear axle lubricant and apply
grease between the lips of the seal. Apply silicone sealant to carrier casting face as shown, Fig. 4, then install housing cover. Torque cover bolts to
30 ft. lbs.
